Superb plate from " Ichthyologie, Histoire Naturelle General et Particuliere des Poissons", by Marcus Elieser Bloch (1723-99). The work describes and illustrates the fishes of the world in a superb hand colouring, sometimes heightened Gum Arabic to accentuate the metallic sheen of the fish scales.
