A VIEW OF THE TOWN OF NICE AND ITS ENVIRONS TAKEN FROM THE ROAD TO VILLA FRANCA
EXtremely rare light brown tinted aquatint by Maria Catherine Prestel from a drawing by the Honourable Mary Harcourt. The British Museum gives the date as 1790, which is early for this type of aquatint printing.
A woman with a child in her arms walks in a forest in the foreground, with mountains at left, cottages among trees beyond at right and harbour, bay and town of Nice seen in distance in the background.
I can only find 2 in Museum / Library collections
Tears in margins one encroaching on printed surface
an extremely rare aquatint in generally good condition.
