PIANTA DI VENEZIA 1874

£450

Attractive and scarce map and views of Venice printed on linen.

A large panoramic vignette view of the Grand Canal at head, and three smaller vignettes below showing views of the Ponte de Rialto, Basilica di S. Marco and l’Orologio, after engravings by Wolfgang Kirchmayr. With keyed indexes to the theatres, palaces, churches and numerous other principal locations. Text in Italian and German.

Presumably aimed at the tourist market among Germans travelling south to Venice. Maps printed on linen were extremely useful in that they were durable and not subject to the vagaries of the weather but also more expensive to produce.

First printed in 1850 this is a later edition with a changed border.
